Billing

Billing at the counter

Touch or keyboard, scan, hold a bill, take cash, UPI and credit in one bill, print.

Two tills, one set of keys

  • Touch till — big tiles, for a tablet or a touch screen. Tap a category, tap an item, tap Pay.
  • Keyboard till — for a PC with a scanner. Type to search, Enter to add, F-keys for quantity, discount, customer and Pay. Nothing needs the mouse.

Both make the same bill, move the same stock and print the same slip.

Scanning

Point the scanner at the barcode: the line is added, or its quantity goes up by one if it is already on the bill. A code the shop does not know is said at once, so a wrong scan never becomes a wrong line.

Holding a bill

A customer steps away to fetch something — press Hold. The bill waits by name while the next customer is served, and comes back with one tap.

Discounts

A line discount, a bill discount, or both — as a percentage or in rupees. Each role has a limit; past it the till asks for a manager's approval on the spot (PIN, phone code or WhatsApp) and the bill goes through at once. There is no "pending" bill.

Paying

Cash, UPI (a QR on the screen the customer scans), card, credit on the customer's account, or a split — part cash, part UPI. The cash drawer opens on a cash bill, and the change due is shown in large figures.

Printing and sending

The bill prints on the shop's thermal printer (2 inch or 3 inch) or as an A4 invoice. With the shop's WhatsApp linked, the same bill reaches the customer's phone as a PDF the moment it is saved.

If the internet drops

On the Windows counter app, nothing changes: the bill is made, numbered and printed, and reaches the shop when the internet is back. See The counter PC, without internet.
